malka tuti presents its first label collaboration, this time with the italian roccadisco, and label bosses ed rodion and hugo sanchez. ed and hugo (aka alien alien) are no strangers to pitched down sexy dancefloor tunes. with previous releases on slow motion records they ve made a name for themselves as sexy bastards. with perfidia they present the vocalist igino, a friend from home. together they ve boiled a slow burning, constantly evolving song for the late late hours. on the remix for the a-side malka tuti present a collaboration of 2 disco legends ray mang and severino panzetta, that add a medditerranian flavour to the original tune, easing things up... on the b-side we have another slow burner with bella l estate, joined by a top remix by tel avivian prodigy naduve.

this amazing ep from dubsons has an amazing analog sound with a mixture of tracks. we have a bouncey groovey track, a driving housey track and an underground minimal dark room track. all these tracks have had amazing support from the likes of rhadoo, petre inspirescu, nu zau and lots more. this ep has been in the pipeline for some time and is still doing the rounds at various events and festivals with the big boys. burghez has an irie, creepy feel which would go down well at any after hours or main time set and is our personal favourite here at trapped ldn.

dolphin dance is the second release by d. briggs on the brooklyn based -stray current- label. on this limited run of 300 hand-stamped copies briggs combines driving dance beats with rough analog synth tones to create a set tunes that will move the floor. the title track has also been remixed by wt label owner willie burns. on his remix, burns strips the track down to the bone and drenches it in reverb, giving it a darker mood and a pummeling melody.

new york’s sheik n beik continue to assert themselves as a trusted outlet of chilly, understated techno following up releases from xamiga, keita sano and hermans with a va from family members ivvy, mr dello, og ag and ray rose. first up is mr dello with ‘pilgrims’ - a bold march that propels few finely crafted elements with deft usage of warped analogue fx. intensity snowballs throughout as metallic synths thicken before og ag aka andrew grant follows up with ‘410 prospect’ - an intergalactic transmission rich with bending synth lines. one half of dirk largo, ray rose then casts his eyes down in following up with tight, shuffling drums and buoyant synth tones all suffused with a healthy dose of dub before ivvy - a fresh alias from madison levine. originating from seattle’s burgeoning hardware scene, he offers up ‘shape speed’ - a languid, capacious groove that drives thick drums through dense and dubby textures that round off a solid addition to a catalogue continuing to go from strength to strength.

our next release is coming from phil evans. phil is also part of the new generation of dj’s and producers that are hailing from the rhein-main area around frankfurt. together with his best mate markus sommer he is running the label pager records. he caught our attention already a while ago and so we were quite happy to receive the tracks for this ep from him. he has a lot of personality in his productions already and his musical range is also quite large going from hip hop to house, but also more stripped down stuff or chicago house references can be found in his music selection and influences. besides that he is a lovely and very sympathetic young man and so it is definitely worth keeping an eye on him, because he is on fire.

swedish producer hans berg returns to pooledmusics techno-focused sister imprint montage with another collection of uniquely esoteric techno. known for previous work on kant and collaborations with johanna knutsson, berg debuted on the label in 2015 with the field ep. his second outing once again provides another showcase for his intriguing rhythmic sensibilities and pleasingly askew take on the classic techno sound palette. the ep is completed by another heads-down burner of a remix from silvershower, aka label boss ian pooley.

the first release from new vinyl only label cherub records. the ‘figure of state’ ep features four tracks: two original cuts from london upstart william earl in analogue work out mode. doppelate’s remix of the ‘figure of state’ on the a-side is an down-tempo, atmospheric trip whilst pépe’s remix of ‘stokey waltz’ takes us into blissfully uplifting, arpeggiated territory.

after a strong run in the early 00 s, 3am recordings came back into action in 2016 with a various artists release that featured a range of artists closely tied to the label s foundations. now label boss al bradley is stretching his wings with -night owl-, a refined production that demonstrates his experience in the field of tech house. goshawk comes on board for a remix that takes the deep sweeping original and makes it into an effervescent summer time groover, while label regular michael scott nudges -night owl- into stripped down late night territory. the third remix from fourfourfour heads into oddball territory for those who like their house music off kilter and playful.

after over a year spent in a slight creative slump in a crumbling terraced house in tottenham, jam baxter rang his label boss while heavily intoxicated to request they fly him to bangkok forthwith, to rejoin forces with ‘...so we ate them whole’ producer and engineer, chemo. after an initial period of understandable hesitancy, the flights were booked and baxter found himself suddenly regurgitated from the belly of a jet airliner into the magical and surreal surroundings of ‘mansion 38’.

the legendary west end records kick off 2017 with the a brand new re-edits series inviting like-minded producers with an underground thirst and a deep understanding of house & disco culture to collaborate on a very special project. first up, wolf music man medlar, applying his dancefloor know-how to west end’s rich archive of classic disco and boogie. hand picking four personal favourites, medlar reworks them perfectly for current club sets. picking out dub sections and skilfully reworking & extending them proving exactly why medlar has been such a draw to labels like delusions of grandeur and for discos only. “i put these edits together for myself and a few friends to play in our dj sets. west end was one of the key stepping stones to what would later become house music and for many is the definitive sound of early 80s new york. i d argue that it s aged better than any other label of that era and if you re relatively new to the label or know it inside out, the catalogue can likely still provide something new.” these four sublime new edits from medlar showcase his passion for digging deep, knowledge of house history and skills as a producer.

hailing from japan, iori wakasa is a name that has been gathering a great deal of hype over the past few years - and with good reason. having built up his skills as a majorly talented dj in tokyo spinning a wide range of sounds and styles, his reputation continues to grow at pace thanks to a string of amazing releases on labels such as highgrade and wirsindeins in recent years - not to mention strong support by some of the scenes biggest names. here he proves what all the fuss is about - a stunning three track ep on steve bugs dessous recordings. be there starts things off right - uber deep vibes throughout, with bubbling synths and spacey effects, all tied together by a hypnotic chandler-esque rhythm track. give me continues the vibe, deep and jazzy chords punctuate the shuffling rhythm and trippy vocal samples add a layer of wonkiness that will see this get a lot of attention. feel it dizzy strips things down a notch, a bass heavy dancefloor filler with dubbed out percussion, effects and vocals snippets. a triumphant ep from iori wakasa - truly one to watch.

love notes (from brooklyn) serves up another winner, this time with the sonic stylings of the illustious (and also brooklyn based) octo octa, whose not unimpressive discography already includes releases on such heavyweight labels such as running back, argot, and deepblak. from the opening, echoed chords and unique percussive qualities of eyes low, through the spaced out funk of touch formation, to the early morning vibes of i feel, this ep delivers on all levels. this is the 9th release on this fine american imprint and they show no signs of slowing down their sonic agenda.
